Mitoraj Myth and Music – exhibition in Pietrasanta

6 Jun

The town of Pietrasanta, also known as the “ Little Athens of Versilia “, has become a symbol for the sculpture since the Renaissance, when Michelangelo and all the main sculptors of the period went to visit the nearby marble quarries in the Apuan Alps of Massa and Carrara.
Since the last 20 years, Pietrasanta, with its beautiful old town with Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque buildings has became the most sophisticated destination in the Versilia region.

pietrasanta_mitoraj

The centre of the town now is full of restaurants, art gallery and also boutiques, but the main reason why of this new golden age of Pietrasanta is that many of the most important contemporary artists have decided to work and sometimes also to live here.
Botero, Vangi and Igor Mitoraj are only some of the most important ones.
This year, to celebrate Igor Mitoraj, who passed away in 2014, the town of Pietrasanta has decided to dedicate the exhibition “Mitoraj Myth and Music” .
Until the 30th August the complex of Sant’Agostino in Pietrasanta (Lucca) hosts his most important sculptures, the giants faces and busts, often wrapped, worldwide famous. To enhance the works, gardening experts have made a real “enchanted garden” where the clay sculptures have been arranged as a sort of theatre set, designed by the author when he was still alive.

Mitoraj worked a lot also for theater and opera, and to complete the celebration, of the great polish artist, a rich musical program has been organized by the Puccini Festival Foundation, and every Friday, it will accompany the exhibition with music events and concerts. The scenic design will be enriched by the images of the photographer Giovanni Ricci Novara.

Venice is always an amazing surprise

17 Nov

Venice is always a surprising city. Ponte di Rialto, Canal Grande, San Marco, are for sure worldwide known, but at the same time, they are normally besieged by multitudes of tourists.

cicchetti tapas italia venice-typical-food-venezia ricette tipiche-piatti-gastronomia

Walking far from these very famous attractions, is what I normally do, during the periodical visit of the Vacavilla’s Venice apartments. This is the reason why of this article, as I normally write about about my beloved Tuscany.

This time I decided to come back to the Sestiere of Cannaregio and Dorsodure, visiting also the Ghetto,  Campo San Polo and le Zattere, facing of the Giudecca channel.

osteria-bancogiro-Venice-cicchetti

During the weekend, I had great food experiences, starting from the Osteria Bancogiro, having a lunch outside on the more than beautiful, let’s say: unique outside, just over the Canal Grande, few meters far from the Rialto bridge, but at the same time in a quite place. Great dishes are the six cicchetti veneziani (nice to see, and excellent to eat), such as the green hollow spaghetti with calamari and chanterelles (mushrooms), the breaded chicken with wild herbs and sweet & sour tomatoes sauce or the tuna steak with pistachios, pinenuts and orange sauce. Address: Campo San Giacometto, 122, tel 041 523 2061

As usual, I decide to dine by the Vecia Cavana restaurant. It is located in the Sestiere of Cannaregio and it is a very classic restaurant with a wide choice of Venetian dishes. Excellent products, and very tasty dishes. I love their  baccalà mantecato with a tender commeal mush, but the best dish is fried moeche (tipical lagoon crab, fried entire nude of its shell), also the cakes trail is great. There is a nice atmosphere, and what I like more is that, the Vecia Cavana is an authentic place, mainly attended by Venetians’ people, instead of the only tourists. In addition to that, the restaurant also offers a wide gluten-free menu. For sure one of the best, and with a larger gluten-free offer I have ever found.

Address Rio Terà SS. Apostoli, 4624. Tel ‎041 528 7106

I wish also to suggest other addresses:

gelateria-nico-gianduiotto-ice_cream-Zattere-Dorsoduro-Venice

Gelateria Nico, in Dorsoduro, at Le Zattere. Don’t live Venice, without having tasted their gianduiotto ice-cream.

It is a bar of gianduiotto ice-cream, fully immersed into a glass of fresh cream. Unbelievable!!!!

Gianduiotto is also a gluten-free ice-cream.

Address Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Longo, 922 tel 041 522 5293

pizzeria-restaurant-oke-venice

Always in Dorsoduro, OKE restaurant and pizzeria is a good address, with a very pleasant outside, just facing the Giudecca channel. The food is good, also the pizza’s. OKE offers also a large choice of gluten-free pizzas of good quality.

Address Calle Frati Dorsoduro, 1414, Tel 041 520 6601

Maga Magò is a very good restaurant, owned directed by Luca Percorini.

restaurant-Maga-Magò-Tuscany-food-Barberino-Mugello-Tuscany

High quality products, excellent and well cooked dishes, generous portion and nice presentation.
Real traditional Italian and Tuscany dishes. Quite a large menu and plats du jour, offering from pasta alla carbonara, in this season, porcini mushrooms tagliolini spaghettini cacio and pepe, mixed boiled meats with sauces, fried porcini mushrooms, artichokes and brain, meatballs with mayonnaise, pigeons, saltred black cabbage, and many others dishes. The dessert is amazing: there is a large buffet offering a rich selection of different cakes (torta dell nonna, cheese cake, hand-made panforte, beignets, maritozzi with cream, and more …. dried fruits, liquor and coffes.

restaurant-Maga-Magò-Barberino-Mugello-Florence-Tuscany

The wine menu is very original and offers a selection of uncommon Italian and French wines’ labels.

All the dishes are accurately thought and prepared. The restaurant is nicely decorated in a romantic country style. Candles create a very warm atmosphere.

It is the kind of restaurant I would like to find all over the world to eat good local food and enjoy a nice place mainly attended by local people.

To reach Maga Magò from Barberino di Mugello you will need 15/20 minutes, it is located on the Futa National road, in the village of Montecarelli, where in summertime it is pleasant to dine in the garden of the restaurant, whilst in winter time, it is possible to find the snow.

Don’t forget to book a table, as the restaurant is always full.
