Osteria La Tecchia is a very good address where to taste the real Tuscany food.

The menu offers both fish and meat, with some of the Tuscany most traditional hits, like a superb spaghetti with arselle, fish fry, rosticciana (in english spare ribs), also a very great dish.
The portion are generous and the quality of the food is very very high. Also the catalana is an excellent choice. The creme caramel is genuine and despite they serve big portion, it will never be enough. the last time we went there, the chef offered some appetizing fry bread with anchovies.
The prices are correct, and they offers also a menu at 25€. Very Very good. We suggest it.

The Osteria offers the possibility to enjoy your dinner outside. The setting is nice, as the Osteria la Tecchia is situated in the old town of Pietrasanta, few meters from the famous Enoteca Marcucci, usually attended by the jet set. The beautiful cathedral square is just 5 minutes walking.

Wassily Kandinsky at Palazzo Blu in Pisa, Tuscany

19 Nov

More than 50 works on show until Feb 3

The Blue Palace hosts the exhibition “Wassily Kandinsky, from Russia to Europe” which has started on October 13th and lasting until February 3rd. It displays around 50 works by the famous Russian painter,  known as the father of abstract painting. Most of them will be comes from the St. Petersburg museum and other importanr Russian art institutions.
The exhibition celebrates the twenty years from 1901, the year in which Kandinsky gave up his law and ethnographic studies which brought his attention to the traditional and original peoples of the Russian empire and decided to turn to painting, to 1922 when he decided to abandon Soviet Russia even though he was a supporter in the first years of the revolution, and in turn accepted Walter Gropius’ offer to teach along side Paul Klee at the Bauhaus in Germany.

Opening the exhibition is a fascinating section dedicated to the visual and conceptual roots which form the basis of Kandinsky’s work, replete with rare objects belonging to the shaman.

The show has guiding the visitor through an artistic journey, beginning with the early work of a symbolist nature, to the paintings from his Murnau period (displayed alongside select paintings by Gabriele Munter, Alex Jawlensky, Marianne Werefkin and Arnold Schonberg), up until the great works which recognize Kandinsky as being the point of reference for the western Avant Garde, taken from the Der Blaue Reiter and other major protagonists of the Russian Avant-Garde.

The exhibition is curated by Eugenia Petrova, director of the museum of St. Petersburg and in collaboration with Claudia Beltramo Ceppi, promoted by the Blue Palace Foundation, with the backing of the City of Pisa and organized by the Joint Arts Exhibitions and Museums.

Osteria La Mescita in Pisa – very good food in the downtown

18 Nov

La Mescita is a very typical Italian Osteria. It is located in the market area. Old wooden tables, marble counter, many gastronomic guides signalling. A very pleasant atmosphere to taste very good dishes. Excellent artichokes salade with Parmigiano and oil of anchois, interesting ravioli filled with mucco (a typical cow of the Pisa area) served with a potato’s sauce, magnifics are the tagliatelle with the meat sauce and also the “parigina”, a very typical Tuscany dish. Also the creamy tiramisu is well prepared and  excellent dessert. The Wine offer is interesting and also the vino della casa is a good Rosso di Montalcino.

The service is quite quick and informal but very kind. The portion are genourous, and the prices correct.
