Il Palio di Siena – much more than a horses’ race

11 Feb

Il Palio di Siena is many things together. It is much more than a horses’ race. It is a concentrated of life.

The citizens of Siena (senesi) live the Palio all over the year. They take care of it, they work for it, they dream it every day, they hope in it. Their efforts and their wish are directed to be the king of the city for one day. One minute and half  to hope, to abandon all the awful thoughts, and to scream, cry and pray.

I attended to it twice, and I have been overcame by the emotions all the contradaioli live during the Palio days, and during this minute and half.

If you are interested in knowing which is the Palio rituals, just click on http://www.ilpalio.org/palioenglish.htm, I preferred to tale you the emotions I lived when I was there.

To live entirely the Palio and Siena experience, a “like living there experience”  the best way is to rent a villa or an apartment in a agriturismo in the beautiful contryside there around. In Chianti, or in the Crete senesi.

If you wish to live this experience, contact Vacavilla, a tailor made rental agency offering a wide range o holiday homes with pool weekly rentable, or for a short break.
